SSL ClearView Reporter

Powerful Reporting For Juniper Networks SA Solutions

The SSL ClearView Reporter™ application is a software solution developed by NWG Technologies LLC for the Juniper Networks SSL VPN product lines. SSL ClearView Reporter logs data from one or more SSL VPN devices and generates feature-rich reports that provide security professionals valuable insight into network usage and user activity. It also enables IT managers and stakeholders in regulation compliance (such as the Sarbanes-Oxley Act) by providing the ability to show evidence that the transaction path has effective integrity controls.

Written expressly for the Juniper Networks SSL VPN, the SSL ClearView Reporter operates as a standalone solution and as an enhancement to the reporting capabilities of Juniper Networks’ NetScreen-SA Central Manager.

The newest version of the SSL ClearView Reporter application features a Web-based centralized management interface and faster performance, providing a greatly enhanced user experience and reporting functionality.

As a value-added utility, the SSL ClearView Reporter provides multiple functions that further enhance the reporting capabilities found in Juniper Networks' NetScreen-SA Central Manager. Benefits of this application include:

Product Architecture - Components :

  • ClearView Agent – An SSL VPN Gateway functions as an agent in the SSL ClearView Reporter architecture. It provides log data to the ClearView Server via syslog protocol. The ClearView Server also polls SNMP data from agents.
  • ClearView Server - As the core component of the SSL ClearView Reporter, the ClearView Server is an appliance with a pre-hardened Linux-based operating system that provides robust and high performance. The ClearView Server also provides a central data repository and a Web interface for administrators and users to manage and configure system, application and user accounts, as well as view reports. A single ClearView Server supports multiple SSL VPN gateways or clusters, and generates reports in real time.
  • ClearView User Interface – ClearView users can access the Web-based interface through a Web browser and view all the available reports in the SSL ClearView Reporter. Centralized multi-role management streamlines functionality for Administrative, Reporter, and Admin/Reporter designations.

Product Maintenance and Support:

NWG Technologies supports customers’ needs by regularly releasing service packs providing new reports and feature enhancements. We use a unified client-server model for distributing updates and managing support connections. Our Secure Access Server maintains the latest software code for the ClearView Server appliances in addition to managing customer support connections. A client must initiate a support connection to the Secure Access Server, which ensures privacy and security while maximizing pass-through support for firewalls.

The server requires pre-established SSH public key credentials in addition to restricting system access. Once a support connection is established, an authorized NWG Technologies support engineer can access a customer’s ClearView appliance to update code or interactively troubleshoot issues.

NWG Technologies’ Secure Access Server is a hardened Linux server with the following features:

Specifications

  • YUM Enabled Linux Repository
  • Shell-Restricted SSH Access
    • No shell access for clients
    • SFTP subsystem disabled
    • RSA public key authentication required
    • Port-forwarding for remote assistance
    • No private keys stored on server
  • Allows for both automatic and manual software updates
  • All support connections use standard TCP ports and are outbound from client for maximum firewall compatibility
  • Client must initiate all support connections

ClearView Agent Supported Platforms include Juniper Networks Secure Access 500/700/1000/2000/3000/4000/5000/6000.
